The team here at Sharp’s Brewery hope you, your families and loved ones have all kept safe and well during the last few weeks. Since the government announced that some pubs and bars will be able to open again on the 4th of July, we are now preparing the brewery to supply fresh cask ale and draught beer to our On-Trade customers across the country. Previously we sent out a communication around decommissioning your cellar equipment and management of the beer that has now passed its best before date. We are now able to confirm the process around credits for spoilt beer and cider.
Our parent company Molson Coors have been leading a working group of Brewers, along with the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) and HMRC, to make the process as simple as possible. On Tuesday the 2nd of June an industry-wide website was launched that enables licensees to record their spoilt beer and claim back credit for all draught products produced by the participating Brewers delivered to outlets on, or after the 2nd of March 2020.
You can access the website by visiting www.ReturnYourBeer.co.uk via mobile, tablet or computer and creating a profile. Once your profile has been created you can follow guidance and instructions to submit the details of aged beer by individual container and then request credit. Full details on how to do this and what information you’ll need to hand are all on the website. This process will provide authorisation from brewers to decant the beer on-site in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, in compliance with guidelines from brewers, local water authorities and in line with Government social distancing restrictions. ONLY once your request has been approved are you then able to destroy that beer on site.
