We're proud to support our local clubs
We sponsor seven grassroots rugby clubs across Cornwall, aiding their effort on, and off, the pitch in a number of different ways. Bodmin, Wadebridge Camels, St Austell, Truro, Penryn, Launceston and Camborne RFC are all working with Doom Bar, the UK's best-selling cask and bottled ale.
All our clubs have league ambitions, coupled with local community objectives, and the team at Sharp’s are committed to helping each club, not just with a sponsorship fee but with additional support, such as publicity or support for fundraising events to help clubs operate at the top of their game, both on and off the pitch.
As Dai Griffiths, our commercial director, confirms: "Rugby and beer are a natural fit. To create a great pint of beer and excel on the rugby pitch you need the same values: integrity, dedication, focus and respect. And in Cornwall, the team and community mentality, strength and commitment is evident across the clubs that we support.
"There is something about being geographically so far away from the 'centre' of the country and we see the same determined spirit at our sponsored rugby clubs that we see in our dedicated team at the brewery."
Dai continues: "Day and night, year round on our site in Rock, a collective team of over 150 people work to always brew the highest quality beer, because in the mantra of our founder, Bill Sharp, we are only ever as good as our last pint.
"Over the next four weeks, this Doom Bar Cornish Rugby Series will see a set of profiles of the seven key clubs that Sharp’s Brewery is sponsoring this season, as well as further details on the work that Doom Bar is supporting across the Cornish rugby scene."
