BLUE FLAG

WE'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT OUR BEACHES

For five years now, we've helped Cornish beaches become recognised as among the best in the world, ensuring that a grand total of 22 Blue Flags and Seaside Awards can be seen flying high over the coastline.

The iconic Blue Flags, an international quality mark for beaches, reassure visitors and locals alike that Cornwall’s key areas are clean, safe and recommended, boosting tourism, business and helping inspire return visits.

Blue Flags and Seaside Awards are only awarded to coastal destinations that boast the highest qualities of water, facilities, safety, keep clean programmes, environmental education and management.

We provide the funding for Cornwall Council to make the applications for the awards and we continue to work with the volunteer communities who work to make this fantastic achievement possible.

Carbis Bay, which has been awarded both a Seaside and Blue Flag Award, is the only Cornish beach that has self-funded its own application through Carbis Bay Hotel.

The newest addition to the award-winning Cornish beach team is Crackington Haven, set between Bude and Boscastle. This beach, with its stony foreshore and golden sand, will now be very proudly flying its Seaside Award for the next year.

We've been delighted to support the hard-working beach champions and local volunteers, as well as Cornwall Council and BeachCare (part of Keep Britain Tidy) over the last five years, with this support, now totalling in excess of £42,000.

Cllr Sue James, Cornwall Council cabinet member for environment and public protection said: "Our success in being awarded so many Blue Flag and Seaside Awards confirms what we who live here already know – that Cornish beaches are among the best in the world.

"Working with the community and our partners, Cornwall Council plays a key role in maintaining and protecting our beaches, keeping them clean and supporting water safety.

"While we coordinate the applications, the support we have from Sharp’s Brewery, alongside the efforts of community groups, beach champions and local businesses is critical to making sure beaches reach the high standards required to gain a Blue Flag or Seaside Award. We are extremely proud to be involved."
